1. to shrink back with shuddering from; to regard with horror or detestation; to feel excessive repugnance toward; to detest to extremity; to loathe. abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. xii. 9.

Abhor (or Amba Hor) and Mehraela were a brother and sister who were martyrs for the Christian faith. The book of their "acts" has been lost. Their feast day is celebrated on January 9 in the Coptic Church.
